It's days like today when I really revel in the Autumn weather. The sky feels enormous, and is full of podgesome, steel grey clouds with a golden aura. There's rain too, splashing against the windows and pooling in the empty plant pots in the garden.
I wonder how thankful I would be about the rain if I had to leave the house today? But as it is, I can curl up on the sofa, wrapped up in my Fascadale shawl listening to London Grammar, with a steaming hot cup of tea in my hand. To my left Arthur is snoring peacefully, and Jiji sits on the windowsill pawing at the dribbles of rain.
Wednesdays have become one of my favourite days. I don't have to go into university, but because I'm in tomorrow I can spend the day relaxing with no housework. So, it's the perfect time to get in some hardcore knitting, catch up on podcasts and bury my nose in a book. It's also a good day for guilty pleasures, like Torchwood and Made in Chelsea. My days are filled with a whole lot of nothing.
I've been listening to back episodes of the Knitmore Girls, A Playful Day and the Lost Geek, while knitting my Stars Over Samarkand shawl and Autumn socks.
I'm currently working Chart E of the SOS shawl, and it seems to be taking forever, but I'm really enjoying the process. There's something so relaxing about beading while knitting, and the main body of the shawl is pretty simple stockinette stitch, so it should be flying along. But, my concentration at the moment is terrible, so keeping count of my stitches is taking far too much brain power!
I've finished the first of my Autumn socks, and have just begun the foot portion of the second sock. It's the first toe-up pattern that I've knitted and I'm really enjoying it. It's actually a very elegant way to knit and looks much neater than my top down vanilla socks.
This week so far has been full of minor problems, I've been feeling poorly for about two weeks now, and yesterday Rob has to come home after getting sick at work. Arthur has also been under the weather, with a minor cough. It seems only Jiji is feeling healthy in our little family at the moment. There's been paperwork to do, phone calls to make, jobs to do. So the joy in doing nothing today is not lost of me.
I recently harvested the chillis that grew in the raised bed that Rob built for me earlier in the year and I'm thinking about making some chilli oil and jam out of the fruit. The mini peppers should also be ready soon - I'm just not sure what to do with them yet! But hopefully tonight I can get a jam bubbling away, while I bubble myself in a nice hot bath!
Hope you're all having a happy hump day!
